The View From Your Window

My favorite thing about Andrew Sullivan's blog, the Daily Dish, is the "view from your window" series. I was thinking it would be a good thing for the Smoker to rip that idea off.

So I'd like to invite Smokers to take pictures from your windows and send 'em in. Submissions should include a photo of the view from your window (obvs.), the name of the school (I'm assuming most submissions will be from windows on campus, though that's not a requirement), the city, state/province (or equivalent), country (if other than US or Canada), and what time it was when the photo was taken. I'll try to post them all, but I'll also try to space them out a little (so don't worry if yours doesn't show up right away). Let's see your views, Smokers.

DOUBLE UPDATE: Oh yeah, send 'em here: "zero.mrr at gmail.com" (In the original update, I put the email address between brackets, because I am dumb. Sorry.

(The photo above is stolen from here, and is the view from a window the Ginkgo Reading Room, Olin Library, Washington University, St. Louis.)'

I'm junior faculty. I don't have a window. But if I did, it would be completely snowy out there.

I have a really, really nice chair, however.

You could always go to somebody else's window and say it was yours.

Zombie,

I've had tenure for three years. No window. In fact, in ten years since grad school, where I had an awesome window, including my VAP, I have never had a window.

And there isn't one coming anytime soon...

I'm not seeing an email address in the post. It says "Oh yeah, send 'em here:" but only empty space follows the colon.

I'm having the same visual experience as Anon 10:29.

OT, but: has anyone else noticed the "Member Resources" link disappearing from the APA site? I'm logged in, but somehow don't have the option anymore (I had the link up until about 5 days ago). No JFP updates for me!

So where should we send them? Fun idea.

Unrelated: Anyone else find "Member Resources" missing from the "Resources" page of the APA site? Or does this mean my membership has lapsed? Someone from the APA would tell me that, right?...

So is this going to be a contest, like at Sully's place? It'd be fun to try to figure them out before you post the where.

11:36, you will see the Member Resources link if, but only if, you are logged on.

You should bookmark the link to JFP 192W. It makes it much easier. I try to check every day, and it doesn't log me out for being off the site for too long, so I never have to go to the main site (shudder!) and log in. If they've denied you access, of course, then this won't work. But it would avoid having to rely on the main site to get to that one page.

Correction, you will see the member resources link only if you are logged in. Being logged in and a member in good standing is not sufficient for seeing the link. It occasionally disappears, as has been covered on this blog many times before. I am currently experiencing the same problem.

If anyone has the link to the current web ads it would be nice to share it.

You can find the JFP 192W here, assuming you are logged in.

I'm 11:06--and I am logged in, but not seeing the link. When I click on the link posted by 4:34, access is denied. The APA's website indicates that the membership year runs out in the summer (not January), so perhaps this is a glitch, as 2:56 suggests. I'm not a religious reader of the Smoker, so I was unaware that this had been covered.

I've been wondering about that also. I don't even get an option to click 'Member Resources', despite being logged in.

JFP seems to have disappeared for me as well. way to go, APA. incompetent doesn't seem to quite capture it any longer.

The entire website seems to be down right now.

The whole APA site is down. I guess they read this discussion and figured that would be a way of solving the missing job ads problem. Just make the whole site disappear.

Yeah, it couldn't possibly be that they're actually working to fix the problem or anything, could it? This happened during the APA Eastern, and they had it up by early the next day.

In my dissertation, I defended the thesis that there is no external world. When I got my first job, I could not ask in good conscious for an office with a window.

Denying the external world does not require denying that you have experiences that you like and dislike. You defended this view and now are giving in to one of the most uncharitable straw versions of it?
